Your HummingBytes images, from ChatGPT or Claude Code.

Ask your AI assistant for an image and HummingBytes creates it with the models and credits already in your account. You approve the exact cost first, and every image you create is saved in your HummingBytes gallery.

Tested with ChatGPT on the web and the Claude Code CLI. Requires a personal HummingBytes account.

From idea to gallery.

Mention HummingBytes in your request so your assistant uses the right tools. In ChatGPT, type @HummingBytes.

Create an image

Describe what you want, pick an available model, format and size, and review the exact credit cost. Nothing is charged until you press Generate, on the card in ChatGPT or on the HummingBytes approval page from Claude Code.

“Use HummingBytes to create an image of a lavender candle on white marble, in 4:5.”

Find your creations

Find the images and videos you generated, including ones made on the website, by prompt words, model or favorites. Search reads the saved prompt, not what an image shows, and doesn’t include uploaded files.

“Use HummingBytes to find the candle images in my gallery.”
ChatGPT only

Remove a background

Attach a product photo in ChatGPT and get a transparent PNG back. No credits needed; the daily limit is shared with the website.

“Use HummingBytes to remove the background from this photo.”

ChatGPT and Claude Code use the same server URL and the same HummingBytes sign-in. Choose your assistant and follow its steps.

Before you start

You need a personal HummingBytes account. Images use the models and credits available to that account. There’s no API key to create.

Accounts with two-step verification can’t connect yet. If that applies to you, use HummingBytes on the website.

ChatGPT on the web

Add HummingBytes to ChatGPT as a custom MCP server from a desktop browser, then approve each image on a card in the chat.

In a work or school workspace, an admin may block custom servers.

Open ChatGPT
  1. Add a custom server

In ChatGPT, open Plugins → Add (+) → Add custom MCP server. Name it HummingBytes.

  2. Paste the server URL

    https://hummingbytes.com/api/mcp

Leave Authentication set to OAuth. No client ID or secret is needed.

Important: open Advanced OAuth settings → OpenID support and uncheck “OIDC enabled”. HummingBytes does not support this option yet.

  3. Connect your account

Review ChatGPT’s custom-server notice, then install and connect HummingBytes. Sign in on our website with your personal account and select Allow.

  4. Mention @HummingBytes in a new chat

Type @HummingBytes and ask: “Show me which image models I can use and what they cost.” When you ask for an image, check the card and press Generate to start.

Claude Code CLI

Run these commands on the computer where you use Claude Code. You approve each image on a HummingBytes page in your browser.

Tested with Claude Code 2.1.309.

  1. Add the server

claude mcp add --transport http hummingbytes https://hummingbytes.com/api/mcp

Run this in a terminal, from the project folder where you use Claude Code. No API key is needed.

  2. Sign in

    claude mcp login hummingbytes

Complete the HummingBytes sign-in in a browser on this same computer, because it returns to Claude Code through a local address. Sign in with your personal account and select Allow.

  3. Ask, then approve in your browser

Ask Claude Code to use HummingBytes to list the image models you can use and their prices. When you ask for an image, it gives you a HummingBytes approval link. Open it, check the details and press Generate, then ask Claude Code for the result.

Getting a quote, opening the approval link and checking status are free. Only pressing Generate spends the credits shown.

A few things to know.

How are images charged?

Images use the credits and models already available to your HummingBytes account. You see the exact cost before anything is charged: on a card in ChatGPT, or on a HummingBytes approval page from Claude Code. Only pressing Generate spends credits. Getting a quote, opening the approval page, checking progress and searching your gallery are free. Your assistant can’t buy credits or change your plan.

Can I use product photos, videos or batches?

Not through this connection. It creates one image at a time from a text description, using your personal account. Use the HummingBytes website for reference-photo generation, Product Images, videos and batches.

Which photos can I use for background removal?

Only a photo attached in ChatGPT on the web, so background removal isn’t available from Claude Code. Attach one JPG, PNG or WebP up to 10 MB and 16 megapixels. You get a transparent PNG up to 1,440 px on its longest side; the first one may take about a minute. Download it within 24 hours: results are not saved in your gallery, and anyone with the link can open the file until it expires, so keep the link private.

Which assistants does it work with?

We’ve tested ChatGPT on the web, in a desktop browser, and the Claude Code CLI. The ChatGPT mobile app, Claude’s web and desktop apps and other MCP clients haven’t been verified, so they may not work as described here.

Where do my images go, and how do I disconnect?

Generated images from either assistant are saved in your HummingBytes gallery. What HummingBytes returns to your assistant becomes part of that conversation, where the assistant provider’s policies apply. To stop using HummingBytes, remove it in ChatGPT’s plugin settings or run claude mcp remove hummingbytes. That doesn’t revoke access on our side; contact us if you want us to. Read our privacy policy.
